The Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee pointed out that it is necessary to adhere to the principle of ‘people’s city built by the people and for the people’, to deepen the reform of the institutional mechanism for urban construction, operation and governance, to accelerate the transformation of the mode of urban development, and to establish a sustainable mode of urban renewal. ‘Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, Beijing has adhered to the Beijing Urban Master Plan as the overarching principle, and has endeavoured to explore the road of urban renewal that suits the characteristics of the capital city in the direction of advancing the development of the capital city in the new era.
On 27th September 2024, the 3rd Beijing Urban Renewal Forum and the 2nd Beijing Urban Renewal Week were grandly opened at the Bell and Drum Tower Cultural Square. The event was jointly guided by the Urban Work Office of the Beijing Municipal Committee, the Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and the Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, and was initiated and organised by the Beijing Urban Renewal Alliance. The theme of the event is ‘Renewing the Cultural Lineage, Sharing the Good’, and it will last until mid-October in the city, covering a series of exciting events such as the opening event, several parallel exchange seminars, district-level sub-forums, Beijing Urban Renewal Week sub-field activities, and the closing ceremony.
